With the invention of the World Wide Web came new abilities for businesses to communicate with their customers. In the early days of the internet, the first brick and mortar businesses to implement websites usually gained increased revenue and brand awareness. Today's internet does not provide the same easily gained opportunities.
As of September 2008 there are almost 181,277,835 websites on the internet[1].

The old theory: "Build a website and people will come" is no longer relevant in today's internet. Businesses must provide new channels to attract people to their websites. But it also takes much greater resources to develop these channels. Obviously, the most successful way to drive traffic to a website is utilizing search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. The most direct route to increase traffic is paid advertising, but this can become cumbersome and expensive. A successful alternative is blogs, such as the one you are currently reading. In future posts I will explain blogs in more detail.
